Learn tourism from every side: why people travel and what it does to them, how to travel well, how hosts and businesses work, and how countries plan, earn from and protect it.
Tourism: Travellers, Hosts and Destinations looks at tourism from four points of view at once: the traveller, the host, the local community and the country, with nature and heritage underneath them all. It starts from the basics, so a beginner can follow, and goes deep enough for people working in tourism boards, hotels, tour companies, airlines, parks and ministries.
You'll begin with what tourism is, how it's counted, its history, its many kinds and layers, and the numbers for the world and for Africa. Then you'll look at why people travel and what it does to them: motives, types of traveller, how travel broadens the mind, wellbeing and meaning, the right to travel, and how films and social media shape where we go. The next module covers how travellers choose, judge risk, live a trip in stages and remember it, and how culture, age, identity and disability change what they need, with a lesson on African travellers.
A module on the right way to travel covers planning, money, safety and scams, respect on the road, travelling to learn and spending well. Then the host's side: the hospitality mindset, service quality, complaints, cultural intelligence, guiding, how residents feel and tourism careers. The business module covers airlines, places to stay, how trips are sold, pricing and revenue, tours and experiences, costing a tour step by step, starting a small business and linking tourism to local food and crafts.
The country's side covers how tourism money moves, leakage, jobs, fees, volume or value and dependence, then who runs tourism, visas, the basic services, a national mindset, strategy, marketing and crises. The last modules cover sustainability, overtourism, conservation, heritage, climate and ethics; diaspora, events, faith, health, study and digital tourism; and finish with real cases, the future, a capstone plan and a toolkit.
